YouWrite: Army Minecraft Server

This post was written using the YouWrite feature (found here) by former CPAC Head Philosopher Shaboomboom

After reading Swimmer’s list of things ACP could do as part of its new leadership, the Minecraft server idea got me thinking. What if there could be a representation of armies on a Minecraft server? Could it bring wars and activeness back to armies? Would it even work?

Why It Could Work: Soldiers could use different skins whose color matches they army they fight for. Or, if there is a mod out there that allows for armor to change color, that would work to differentiate everyone in a giant group. People would actually die and lose stuff, and the winner would be able to loot the losers, thus gaining more resources and tools making them stronger. I know there are mods out there for factions, that is exactly what would work for CP Armies. Plus, there is a chat in Minecraft itself that could take the place of xat during battles. It would be much easier to tell if an army won or lost.

Has the enemy been completely slain? Are the only people left in leather armor while you’re all in diamond armor? Are they running away? If so, you probably won!

Additionally, people could make real forts with traps and whatnot, and be able to set explosives. A real life snow fort! Of course, snowballs would take the form of arrows and swords but that’s a small price to pay for a more realistic gameplay. Finally, you could tell who was who because the names would change the same, it doesn’t just take creating a new player to have a different name, you would have to pay for another account. That limits the ability of people to spy in Minecraft greatly. But, of course, there is the problem of paying for an account….

Why It Wouldn’t Work: First of all, Minecraft requires a player to purchase an account. It is a permanent account, lasting forever, but still, 30 bucks (at least it was a year ago) seems like a lot (despite people paying more than that for member penguins despite having to pay again each month/year/other time period). Also, Parents may not want to get their kids an account because of how addicting Minecraft is. Trust me, it’s addicting.

This would all require someone to either run a Minecraft server themselves, pay for one, or have a currently owner create a separate area for armies, unless we were to just take over a server ourselves. It would also be ruined by the introduction of mods. Currently, there is little that can be done for mods such as Nodus, which combines x-ray, flying, fast walking, auto-hitting, and radar along with other cheats. These would make it easier to find materials and see enemies, ruining the game and creating a major disadvantage towards anyone who was not a cheat mod in their Minecraft client. Overall, it seems to be a fantastic idea to bring CP Armies to Minecraft but when it comes down to it, there are too many things that can go wrong.

Cheats are a main thing but also the 30 dollars can deter people and parents, especially those parents who do not want their kids on the computer anyways. But for anyone who already has a Minecraft account, if you have a server that can be used I suggest trying it! The retired old guys like myself might even join in if it’s played via Minecraft!

Comment your ideas and your opinions as well as any other pros or cons I may have missed!

  1. You can do a lot of this on Roblox, plus it’s free.

  3. Well, roblox is too centralized and moderated. You can just allowed cracked clients on the server if you want everyone to get on free.

  5. But these are see pee armies. The fact that MC would be all realistic just sets it up for a lot of arguments and whatnot. I see a lot of fights on ACP chat about who destroyed who’s server, etc. There also seems to be a lot of cheats for the game.

Let’s just stick with what we got and enjoy the simplicity of it.

  11. This is a stupid idea. First, there’s a TON of lag on both Roblox and Minecraft. Second, you have to pay for Minecraft which means less recruits and people.Third, there’s not as many people on minecraft as there is on club penguin. Fourth, the whole reason of “cp armies” is to fight on cp. Fifth, too many glitches and it would be hard to have everyone gather into one server at a time.

    • Yes there is a ton of lag if your computer is a potato

      Like

    • 1. It’s only laggy because your computer sucks. I hear plenty of people complain about lag in armies, too.
      2. The vast majority of recruits in armies are members. Being a member for one year costs more than buying Minecraft in total.
      3. CP has a LOT of inactive users. Minecraft has more active users than CP, not that this point was in anyway helping your case.
      4. Fighting on CP = Spamming and dancing. Yeah. So exciting.
      5. Too many glitches? Have you ever played Minecraft? It’s a published game, not something managed by one person. Even if a glitch does come up, the owners are quick to fix it. MC has as many glitches has CP does, if not less. Also, we gather everybody on a CP server, what’s the difference?

      • Have you even run and maintained a Minecraft server? Have you even been a part of a server? I doubt it.

Minecraft servers are very unreliable unless you get some top end server hosting. Even though servers are getting cheaper, this is still not an affordable or even reliable enough idea.

This can only work as a little bit of fun for a few people on xat to do every now and then. This will not work for any wars. These philosophical ideologies of changing games are stupid and need to be put down.

  12. I would actually love this. An army’s success wouldn’t depend on the number of troops; it would depend on the strategy. It would require people to use their noggins, which believe it or not, is a good thing.

  13. This would be amazing. Like a new revolution of Online Gaming “Warfare.” If we got Towny/Factions, we have Factions as the armies and the Towny stuff as forts to replace servers. This would be amazing. I support this fully.

  17. Hey everyone, I got in contact with Shab earlier today after I saw this so he knows about this too. But I would like to let those of you who are interested also know.

Me and Kyle Cease were actually planning to start a faction-type Minecraft server this summer. I have a computer that can handle the demands requested by this venture, so I plan on a server launch some time in late May. The factions will be totally new, but they will correspond with armies here in the Club Penguin Community.

I will also be working on figuring out the questions posed by borders/land/warfare etiquette/etc and how they will work on this server. Basically what we’re trying to do is to make this as fair as possible.

Overall though, this is going to be crazy fun, and there will be a lot of veterans returning to play. I will update you guys later on this. See you all in about four weeks.

  19. People are saying this like its so simple to do. Armies would lose half, if not a lot more of their troops. If we could play for free maybe, but I think it’s stupid for everyone to pay $30 (or so he says) for this game when they’re in Armies for FREE already.

    • We could have every armies fort be the same, and there’d be banners on top of a building with the name of the army that owns it, and when a war is over, if the invading army wins, all they could do is change the banner’s color and army name

  24. And each fort could have a training area, where people could shoot their arrows at targets, and practice fight other soldiers in the same army, and if a soldier dies while practice fighting, he/she wouldn’t have to lose their stuff, only while fighting in battles.

  26. But if this does work, what block would the forts be made out of, and would we make them in Survival or Creative?

    • Survival, gather resources to build a base. It will be harder to make armies and will stop the spammable 1 man armies with noob leaders.

      • How will it be harder to ‘make armies’ and stop the ‘spammable 1 man armies with noob leaders’ when I don’t know of any that exist? And I think we should surround the training arena with fences, have the walkway to get from building to building (and to the training arena)be made of gravel (if we can find enough) and just leave the training arena is it is–grass blocks. We just have to decide what block the buildings should be made of, and what kind of buildings there should be. How about houses with underground armories(the armories will be made of cobblestone)(after the houses are done being built(the houses will be made of wood walls and wooden stairs for the roof and wool flooring and have some small windows)we could make a 1 block hole going 10-20 blocks down and have ladders going into it with a trapdoor at the top, and the actual armory will have chests full of armor and weapons),training arena(already decided above), a protective wall (made of stone brick and might have a gate)and maybe an office building for the owners(unsure about this).

      • I’d say Creative because I have no idea how log it would take to build that in Survival, and like in my 1st response to your comment saying we should do survival, I don’t know of any ‘spammable 1 man armies with noob leaders’ that exist.

      • I say each army makes a base on Creative Mode, then put it on normal/hard mode on Survival. It would be really fun in a mountain biome.

        Like

        • I’d say normal mode is the best idea, and should we have hostile mobs on the server? Because they do a few things. 1. They add an extra challenge to the game, which is good unless you want to save the durability of your weapons for a fight with other players and for killing animals for food, which we’re going to do on the army Minecraft server, and 2. Try to kill everybpdy no matter what (unless you’re in creative mode, then they’ll leave you alone, but the zombies will still break any wooden doors they can get to). And about building the actual areas, the area (inside)(the part not including the fences) of the training area will be 58 X 40 blocks and the underground armories I stated earlier will be the same size as the houses, with a ladder leading into it in the back right corner.

          • Well, hostile mobs bring the fun of MC…

          • And while it would be fun to have a mountainside base like you said, but I don’t really know what it would look like, because I’ve never built anything in a mountain before, and there’s the fact that you’re going to have to go up and down the mountain to get in and out of the base.

            Like

            • And we could set the difficulty immediately when we spawn, but if we somehow make it so that we don’t have hostile mobs on the server, it wouldn’t matter what difficulty it would be, as the difficulty only affects how much damage you take in a single hit from hostile mobs.

  27. The server should have factions. Would make things interesting.

Also, you could crack an account and make a cracked server. Completely free.

  28. Some new information about the Minecraft server this summer:

This is going to be a test run for a possible- bigger server some time later on this year. We’ll probably only be able to support about 40 people optimally. That’s just the estimate right now, that number could go up. But this is how I’m thinking things will be set up:

    – 40 people, Four factions, 10 people per group.
    – Server has unlimited space, but bases will be built within 5,000×5,000 blocks.
    – Each faction is in charge of designer their own base (or bases), they can build it however they like. They are in charge of mining minerals and being prepared for battles.
    – Each faction is an enemy of each other, destruction of an enemy base is LEGAL, but should not be done excessively. All items on each team are up for grabs if the other team wants to steal them.

This is a free for all we’re looking at, and motivation for fighting each other might be held in some sort of “Whoever has the most diamonds at the end of the week gets TNT munitions for blowing up enemies”.

If you’re somebody who gets easily butt hurt about having a Minecraft creation destroyed, you will not be on the server this summer.

The server difficulty will be set to HARD, so each faction will be forced to build a base for protection against mobs.

    • In charge of the design of their own base(or bases)***

I am unsure what happened to that sentence the first time around.

      Like

      • Well, CP armies don’t have divisions atm, only different timezones, so that part doesn’t make much sense to bring into Minecraft, and we’d be building a base anyway, and not all armies have 40 people in them, but now that I think about it, we really should let the armies build the base however they like as long as it has houses that have ladders leading into an armory as stated in one of my above comments, and a protective wall surrounding the bases. And if our bases do get destroyed, if cheats were allowed we could go into creative mode and fix it.

        Like

        • And if we all stole from each other, and the army you’re stealing from has worse stuff than you do, it wouldn’t make sense to do so, and if there was a fight going on and a house got eploded, I’d probably want to take the stuff in the stuff that blew up if I have room in my inventory just to see what it was, and if we’re lucky enough, if the army you’re stealing from has good stuff and pretty good tools, if you had enough room in your inventory, you could take their good tools, sticks, and resources to craft tools and armor with, and if you currently have worse stuff than the army you’re stealing from, you could put your bad stuff in their chests

          Like

        • Each faction will have 10 members for this.

Also, there won’t be any cheating allowed. If a base gets destroyed, that faction has to rebuild it on their own. We’re playing this the hard way.

There also won’t be any mandatory configuration for a base.

          Like

          • But you said that all items on each team are up for grabs, and creative mode isn’t cheating. And like I said in an above comment, I don’t know how long it would take to build a base in survival mode, and like I said in my 1st reply, CP armies don’t have divisions, just people in different timezones. Also, I’d say that the only things a base absolutely HAS to have are houses and a lot of light.

            Like

  29. But I’m not sure if I’d steal some sticks from another army, mainly because there’s a TON of trees in Minecraft anyway, and if you’re base was near a forest biome, you’d get a lot of saplings to replant the trees, sometimes apples, and a lot of wood for sticks.
